Kretteis’ Two Goals Guide GSU to Victory over Chicago State

GRAMBLING, La. | Beatriz Kretteis scored a pair of goals for Grambling State University, as the Lady Tiger's soccer team defeated non-conference opponent Chicago State 2-0 on Thursday afternoon at the GSU Soccer Complex. 

The victory pushed GSU above .500 for the first time since early September, putting the Lady Tigers at 8-7-3 overall, 4-1-3 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). It also extended GSU's unbeaten streak to six games. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Kretteis put Grambling State ahead of Chicago State (3-13-1) in the 32nd minute, recovering a rebound off of CSU's goalkeeper and sending it into the open net. GSU led 1-0 at halftime.
  • Kretteis put the Panthers away with a her second goal of the contest in the 69th minute. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Grambling State outshot CSU 17-11. GSU put six shots on goal while the Panthers place three shots on net
  • Samantha Diaz tallied two assists. Karlyn Judge registered one assist.  
  • Madison Covey-Taylor notched her seventh clean sheet of the season in goal for the Lady Tigers. She played all 90 minutes, making three saves
  • GSU held a 3-1 advantage on corner kicks
  • There were 22 total fouls called

Grambling State plays Chicago State for a second time in its home finale on Saturday morning. The match set for an 11 a.m. start.
