HONOLULU, O'ahu | The Grambling University women's basketball team fought valiantly, but fell to No. 2 Stanford 87-50 on day two of the Rainbow Wahine Showdown on Saturday afternoon.
Colbi Mples and Tiana Gardner led the Lady Tigers, both scoring in double-figures. Maples scored a team-high 13 points, while Gardner finished with a season-high 11 points.
Stanford (7-1) never trailed, dominating the stat sheet with 11 players cracking the score column. The Cardinal shot an efficient 48.5 percent from the floor (32-of-66).Â
GSU (1-6) shot 32.1 percent from the field, connecting on 17-of-53 field goal attempts.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Grambling State also hit on 35.0 percent (7-of-20) of its attempts from the three-point range. The Lady Tigers went 9-of-12 (75.0 percent) from the charity stripe.
- Stanford was10-of-26 (38.5 percent) from behind the arc. The Cardinal went 13-of-18 (72.2 percent) from the free throw line
- Stanford held a 48-26 rebounding advantage
- The Cardinal outscored GSU in the paint 38-10
- Grambling State scored eight points off turnovers. Stanford scored 20.
- Stanford's bench added 48 points. GSU's contributed 16.
