BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Grambling State University running back Maurice Washington and linebacker Joshua Reed were named the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, the conference announced on Monday afternoon.
Washington, who was selected FedEx Ground FCS National Player of the Week honorable mention, had a breakthrough game for Grambling State in a 36-10 homecoming win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff this past weekend. He rushed a total of 10 times for 201 yards. Washington scored on runs of 75 yards and 56 yards. In addition, he averaged 20.1 yards per rushing attempt.
Reed, who also earned FedEx Ground FCS National Player of the Week honorable mention, paced Grambling State's defense in a 36-10 homecoming win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff this past weekend. He registered 14 total tackles, including eight solo stops. In addition, he contributed 3.5 tackles for a loss of 12 yards.
Alabama State's Santo Dunn and Jackson State's Sy'Veon Wilkerson garnered the SWAC Special Teams and Newcomer honors, respectively.
Washington and Reed join Lewis Matthews (September 5), Quarterius Hawkins (September 12) and Donald Johnson III (October 17) who have received SWAC Player of the Week accolades this season.
Grambling State returns to action on Saturday, with a trip to Houston to face Texas Southern. Kickoff against TSU is set for 6 p.m. from PNC Stadium and the game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
