NATCHITOCHES, La.| The Grambling State University softball team took a trip to Northwestern State University on Tuesday evening falling to the Lady Demons, 8-1.

Ja'Lynn Bonner and Payton Shells stood on the mound for the Lady Tigers allowing a combined 10 hits and eight runs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-Grambling State (7-6) scored its first run in the top of the first inning as Nyah Jones hit an RBI single to left field scoring India Wells

-Northwestern State (10-6) was held scoreless until the bottom of the third inning when Kat Marshall hit a three-run home run putting the Lady Demons on top 3-1

-Marshall hit another three-run homer the next inning to boost NSU 7-1

-The Lady Demons scored one more run in the fifth inning, but the damage was done as Grambling State was unable to answer

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

-Grambling State finished with three hits, one run and no errors

-Northwestern State finished with 10 hits, eight runs and one error

-Payton Shells (0-1) took the loss for the Lady Tigers allowing five hits and three runs

-Maggie Darr walked away with the win for Northwestern State recording nine strikeouts and allowing one run

UP NEXT

The Lady Tigers will travel to Oklahoma City, Okla. to play in the Red Dirt Classic from Friday, March 4 through Saturday, March 5. Grambling State will play its first game at 11:30 am against Oklahoma City.
