BATON ROUGE, La. | The Grambling State University softball team dropped a three-game Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) matchup against rival Southern University Saturday and Sunday afternoon. The Lady Tigers fell 7-6, 3-1, and 6-1.
GAME 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Southern University (7-18, 5-1 SWAC) got on the board first as Kassidy Moore homered to left center to open the bottom of the third inning
-Grambling State (12-11, 2-4 SWAC) immediately responded in the top of the fourth inning with a two-run home run from
Nyah Jones that gave GSU the 2-0 lead
-The Lady Jaguars took the 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning Alissa Castenda scored on a sacrifice bunt from Raquel Latta
-
Antiya Randle led off for the Lady Tigers in the top of the fifth inning smashing one over the left field fence to tie the game at three
-Grambling State went on to score three more runs in the fifth inning holding on to a 6-3 lead
-Southern University didn't answer until the bottom of the sixth inning when Mariyah Sandoval led off with a home run making the score 6-4
-Raquel Latta grounded out to the pitcher allowing Alissa Castenda to score putting the Jaguars within one run of the Lady Tigers, 6-5
-Lauren Parks scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning for the Lady Jaguars tying the score at six
-Both teams went scoreless until Southern University's Kassidy Moore hit an RBI single to score Kalea Brown in the bottom of the 10th inning to end the game

-Grambling State finished with 14 hits, six runs and one error
-Southern University finished with 11 hits, seven runs and five errors

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Southern University scored early in the bottom of the first inning as Lauren Parks stole home

Kayla Robinson singled in the top of the second inning to bring
Antiya Randle home as the Lady Tigers tied it at one
-The Lady Jaguars scored two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning as Alana Mark homered over the right field fence scoring Lauren Parks
-Grambling State couldn't recover as the Lady Jaguars ended the day 2-0 over GSU

-Grambling State finished with eight hits, one run and no errors
-Southern University finished with five hits, three runs and one error

Sherrell Matthews (4-1) suffered her first loss for GSU

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Southern University had a huge third inning scoring four runs and taking a 4-0 lead
-Alana Mark hit her third home run of the series giving the Lady Jaguars a 5-0 lead
-Southern University took a 6-0 lead going into the top of the sixth inning

Tytianna Robinson scored the Lady Tigers' first and only run of the game on a throwing error by the second baseman
-Southern sealed series sweep 3-0
