Christon Selected to All-SWAC Second Team

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Grambling State University redshirt senior guard Cameron Christon was selected to the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) All-Conference Men's Basketball team, the conference announced on Tuesday morning. 

Christon, a SWAC Preseason First Team selection, led the Tigers in scoring, averaging 13.4 points, along with 3.7 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 0.7 steals and 0.5 blocked shots per game. The Allen, Texas native shot 43.3 percent from the floor, 41.5 percent from behind the 3-point line and 81.9 percent from the charity stripe. He scored in double figures 17 times, including pouring in a career-high 25 points in a road victory over Alcorn State 

Florida A&M's M.J. Randolph earned the SWAC's Player of the Year and was named to the all-conference first team. Joining Randolph was Prairie View A&M's Jawaun Daniels, Alabama A&M's Jalen Johnson, Arkansas-Pine Bluff's Shawn Williams (SWAC's Newcomer of the Year) and Jackson State's Jayveous McKinnis (SWAC's Defensive Player of the Year). 

Joining Christon on the second team was Joe French, of Bethune-Cookman, Tyrone Lyons and Jayden Saddler, of Southern, and Justin Thomas, of Alcorn State. 

Mississippi Valley State's Gary Grant was named the SWAC's Freshman of the Year and Alcorn State head coach Landon Bussie earned the conference's coach of the year honor. 

Grambling State, which earned the sixth seed in the conference tournament, begins play in the 2022 Cricket SWAC Men's Basketball Tournament, presented by Mountain Dew, against rival Southern, the tournament's third seed.  

The Tigers swept the regular season series against the Jaguars. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. on Thursday at the Barrow Arena, on the campus of the University of Alabama in Birmingham.
