LORMAN, Miss. | The Grambling State University baseball team utilized a 13-run fourth inning to energize a 32-10 victory, in seven innings, over Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) opponent Alcorn State on Saturday afternoon at McGowan Stadium.
GSU put on a show at the plate, scoring all 32 runs on 17 hits and seven errors. 10 different Tigers notched RBIs. Jarficur Parker led GSU, going 5-for-8 with three RBI.
Keylon Mack and Kam Holland both hit home runs for the Tigers. Mack's homer was his second of the season, while Holland registered his first long ball of the year, entering the game as a pinch hitter.
Jacorey Boudreaux (3-2) earned the victory after working 5.0 innings, allowing four runs on six hits to go along with four strikeouts and three walks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Grambling State (10-17 overall, 5-3 SWAC) got on the board in the first when John Garcia hit a two-RBI single to shortstop, giving GSU a 2-0 lead.
- In the second inning, Nasir Frederick drove in a run with a single to right field. Trevor Hatton brought Frederick around to school after reaching base on a fielder's choice, extending the Tigers' lead to 4-0.
- In the fourth inning, GSU broke the game open with a 13-run inning to building a 17-0 lead.
- Alcorn State (1-18, 1-7) got two runs back in the bottom of the inning.
- GSU tacked on 15 runs over the the final three innings, claiming the 32-10 victory. Kam Holland belted a grand slam in the top of the seventh
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Grambling State scored 32 runs on 17 hits, committed four errors, while leaving 11 runners on base
- Alcorn State plated 10 runs on 12 hits, while making seven errors. The Braves stranded eight runners
- The Tigers stole two bases.
- Nasir Frederick went 2-for-3 with two RBI
- Dayton Ardoin went 2-for-2 with two RBI
- Kam Holland drove in five runs, while going 1-for-2 with a grand slam
- GSU now leads the SWAC in homers (26)
- Garrett Riley and Esteban Tavarez made relief appearances for GSU
- ASU's Austin Guzman (1-3) was charged with there loss, giving up nine runs on six hits in 3.1 innings
