GRAMBLING, La. | An RBI sacrifice fly from India Wells in the bottom of the fifth inning sealed the victory for the Lady Tigers as they took Southern University down in game one of the conference series Friday afternoon at the GSU Softball Complex.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Grambling State (19-17, 6-10 SWAC) held the Jaguars scoreless for seven innings while Payton Shells struck out four batters on the mound
-India Wells broke the game open for the Lady Tigers in the bottom of the fifth inning cranking a sacrifice fly deep to center field scoring Ta'Mya Johnson as GSU scored the only run in the game
-Southern University (10-29, 8-11 SWAC) couldn't make a play with a runner in scoring position as Grambling State took the win
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-Grambling State tallied six hits, one run and no errors
-Southern finished with four hits and no errors
-Payton Shells (4-3) secured the win on the mound throwing all seven innings while allowing no runs and no errors
-Raquel Latta (5-14) took the loss for the Jaguars recording one error and two walks in six innings
UP NEXT
The Lady Tigers face Southern University in a doubleheader to decide the series. First pitch is set for 12 pm with the second game to follow.
