HOUSTON, Texas | The Grambling State University softball team dropped its conference road series against a tough Texas Southern team over the weekend. GSU fell 2-1 at Memorial Park Friday and Saturday.
GAME 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Grambling State (18-17, 5-10 SWAC) scored first in the top of the second as Faith McQueary singled to right field scoring Antiya Randle
-The Lady Tigers rallied with two out to score again as India Wells singled to shortstop scoring Deija Russell
-Texas Southern (15-17, 12-3 SWAC) scored its first run in the bottom of the second inning as Julia Bilbao doubled to left field allowing Mila Rodriguez to score
-TSU tied the score 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning with an RBI single up the middle from Daryn Haslam
-Texas Southern came up with a huge inning in the fifth scoring 10 more runs to breeze past GSU with the 12-2 victory
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-Grambling State finished with four hits, two runs and four errors
-Texas Southern finished with nine hits, 12 runs and four errors
-Dacia Richard recorded the loss on the mound for GSU allowing nine hits, 12 runs and nine errors
-Jazmine Gendorf registered the win for TSU throwing for five innings and allowing four hits and two runs
GAME 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Texas Southern took a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning off of two hits and one GSU error
-Grambling State responded immediately in the top of the third as Kaylee Nettles homered over center field making the score 4-1
-Texas Southern sealed the game, 8-1, in the bottom of the sixth scoring four more runs
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-Grambling State finished with two hits, one run and three errors
-Texas Southern finished with eight hits, eight runs and one error
-Ja'Lynn Bonner took the loss on the mound pitching five innings, allowing eight runs, eight hits and recording five errors
-Tierrah Williams recorded the win for TSU pitching five innings and only allowing two hits and one run
GAME 3
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Grambling State scored first as Antiya Randle reached home on an error by third base
-GSU took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fifth as Ta'mya Johnson singled to right field scoring Asli Strozier
-Texas Southern got on the board with a single to center field from Tamera McKnight that scored Julia Bilbao
-GSU held Texas Southern to its one run to steal the game three victory, 2-1
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-Grambling State finished with four hits and two runs
-Texas Southern finished with five hits, one run and one error
-Payton Shells walked away with the victory for GSU pitching all seven innings, allowing five hits, one run and striking out five batters
-Lailah Bell took the loss registering one strikeout and allowing four hits and two runs in five innings
UP NEXT
The Lady Tigers will host Northwestern State University on Tuesday for a mid-week matchup with the Demons at the GSU Softball Complex. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
