MONROE, La. | On a soggy night in North Louisiana, the Grambling State University women's soccer team put up a valiant effort against Louisiana-Monroe, falling 3-2 at Brown Stadium on Friday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the first half, both teams toughed out a downpour, battling to a scoreless tie going into the locker room.
- Grambling State (2-1) played aggressive defense, thwarting every scoring opportunity Louisiana-Monroe (2-0) had. The Lady Tigers, however, picked up three yellow cards in the first 30 minutes of the contest,
- ULM nearly jumped on the scoreboard in the opening frame, when Eve Blakely missed a shot off the top of the crossbar in the 19th minute
- GSU was outshot 7-2 in the first half.
- The War Hawks pushed ahead 1-0 in the 51st minute with a goal from Ashley Washburn.
- ULM tacked on another goal in the 54th minute on a penalty kick by Lena Goppel.
- The Lady Tigers responded in the 59th minute when Beatriz Kretteis found the back of the net off of an assist from Nia Harley, trimming ULM's lead to 2-1.
- Trailing 3-1 in the 76th minute, Samantha Diaz scored a long-range goal on free kick from roughly 25 yards out to cut ULM's lead to one.
- The Lady Tigers couldn't get any closer, falling 3-2.

- The War Hawks put 11 shots on frame. The Lady Tigers put four on goal
- GSU goalkeeper Madison Covey-Taylor played all 90 minutes, making eight saves.
- Grambling State committed 11 fouls
