GRAMBLING, La. | The Grambling State University football team will look to rebound off last week's last as the Tigers continue their road swing with a trip to Daytona Beach to open Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play at Bethune-Cookman on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. (central time) from Daytona Stadium.
Grambling State (1-2) is coming off a 66-24 defeat last week at No. 11 Jackson State. The Tigers showed grit and toughness in the heat last week at Jackson State, where GSU went into the break trailing 21-17. However, JSU pulled away in the third quarter to get the victory.
Bethune-Cookman (0-2) enters the contest off a pair of losses and is coming off a bye to prepare for conference play. The Wildcats opened the season with a loss at Miami, before falling on Sept. 10 to South Carolina State, 33-9.
Saturday's game will be streamed live ESPN+ as Matt Pederson and Ken Moore will have the call. Grambling State will broadcast and stream the game on the Grambling State Sports Radio Network. The game can be heard in Ruston and Dubach on the flagship station, The Peach (KPCH-99.3 FM), KNNW 103.1 FM in Columbia and Monroe and KEDG 106.9 FM in Alexandria and Pineville. The Tigers' broadcast crew of Ricky Robertson and T. Lay Collins will call all of the action.
Grambling State head coach Hue Jackson said the Tigers played well in the first half against Jackson State, but didn't finish well in the non-conference loss.
This week Grambling State makes the nearly 840-mile trip to Daytona Beach to face a Bethune-Cookman team that hasn't lost to the Tigers since 2004.
"It's a big matchup for us," Jackson said. "They are coming off a bye so they've had a couple weeks to get ready and heal up. Obviously, they'll be ready to play. We've got to pack a good team and go down to Daytona and go play some good football."
