Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Curtis Ford

Grambling State Easily Defeats South Carolina State 5-0

GRAMBLING, La. | Four Tigers scored as the Grambling State University women's soccer team easily disposed of South Carolina State 5-0 at the GSU Soccer Complex on Wednesday afternoon. 
 
The victory was GSU's eighth consecutive win and improved the Tigers to 10-4-3 overall. 
 
Karlyn Judge, who was named Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Co-Offensive Player of the Week this week, led the GSU offensive onslaught scoring two goals. 
 
Beatriz Kretteis, Aria Whitney and Kayla Reed also notched goal for Grambling State. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Reed got the Tigers on the board quickly with a goal in the 7th minute. Dori Johnson notched the assist, her first of the season.  
  • Grambling State quickly extended the lead to 2-0 when Aria Whitney cashed in a goal in the 10th minute. 
  • The Tigers grew the lead to 3-0 on a nice shot by Judge in the 18th minute. 
  • Kretteis wrapped up the first half scoring with her third goal of the year in the 31st minute. 
  • Judge tacked on her team-leading seventh goal in the 54th minute, giving GSU a commanding 5-0 advantage. 
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • GSU dominated the shot attempts, outshooting SCSU 25-4. The Tigers put 16 shots on goal. 
  • The Tigers also had an 12-1 advantage on corner kicks.
  • Both committed 12 fouls apiece.
  • Madison Covey-Taylor and Aimee Benton both split time in goal, with Covey-Taylor handling the entire first half and Benton taking over duties at the start of the second half.

Grambling State returns to SWAC action on Friday, Oct. 20 when it welcomes Jackson State to town for a battle for first place in the conference. First kick is scheduled for 4 p.m
