GRAMBLING, La. | The Grambling State University women's soccer team lead for much of the afternoon, but a late goal by Southern secured a 1-1 draw between the two rivals on Sunday at the GSU Soccer Complex.
GSU remains in first place in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) with an 11-4-4 overall record and a 7-0-1 mark in conference. SU moved to 7-4-4 and 5-0-3 in SWAC play.
How It Happened
- Beatriz Kretteis put GSU on top in the 33rd minute with her fourth goal of the season. Naya Vialva and Aria Whitney were credited with assists.
- Southern tied the game 1-1 when Tori Thomas scored the equalizer in the 84th minute.
Inside the Numbers
- Southern outshot Grambling State 8-7. GSU put three shots on goal while SU placed four on frame.
- GSU was whistled for 13 fouls. SU committed five fouls.
- Grambling State held a 4-3 advantage on corner kicks.
- Madison Covery-Taylor played all 90 minutes in goal for GSU, making two total saves.
- GSU extended its unbeaten streak versus Southern to nine games. The last time SU beat Grambling State was on Sept. 23, 2016.
- The Tigers also extended its SWAC Regular Season unbeaten streak to 14 games.
