TALLAHASSEE, Fla. | The Grambling State University women's basketball team cruised to a 61-46 victory over Florida A&M at the Al Lawson Multipurpose Center on Saturday afternoon.
GSU (8-18 overall, 7-8 SWAC) had three players score in the double figures. Leah Morrow led with 15 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two steals. Miracle Saxon added 12 points, eight rebounds , one assist and one steal and Amanda Blake registered 12 points, six rebounds, one assist and two steals.
Grambling State was dominant in the paint outscoring the Rattlers 34-20 in the inside. The Tigers used solid ball movement and converted second chance opportunities to build their lead over FAMU (5-22, 3-13).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Grambling State got on the board first with successful trip to the line by Tiana Gardner.
- Florida A&M answered immediately with a layup from Dylan Horton.
- GSU held on to a seven-point, 14-7 lead going into the second quarter.
- Leah Morrow scored a layup in the paint at 9:34 at the start of the second, extending the
- Tigers lead 16-7 .
- Grambling State took a fifteen point 27-9 lead at the 3:18 mark.
- The Tigers led 29-11 going into halftime.
- Amanda Blake came out of the half to hit a layup at 9:44 keeping Grambling ahead 31-11.
- Grambling gained a 23 point, 36-13 lead with 7:59 remaining in the third.
- GSU continued to pull away from Florida A&M taking a 46-33 advantage into the final quarter.
- Grambling State outscored the Rattlers 15-13 in the fourth quarter to get the 41-46 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- GSU shot 40.3 percent from the floor (25-of-62) and 6.7 percent (1-of-15) from behind the arc. GSU went 10-of-15 (66.7 percent) from the charity stripe.
- FAMU was 18-of-53 from the floor (34 percent), shooting 26.7 percent (4–of-15) from three-point range. Florida A&M went 6-of-9 (66.7 percent) from the free throw line.
- Grambling State scored 19 points off turnovers, the Rattlers scored 14.
- The GSU bench registered 21 bench points. FAMU tallied 23.
- Dylan Horton led Florida A&M with 11 points, five rebounds, one assist and one steal.
