GRAMBLING, La. | Anaiyah Fultz homered twice as the Grambling State University softball team sailed to a 12-4 victory in six innings over Jackson State on Wednesday afternoon at the GSU Softball Complex.
Fultz, a redshirt senior from Vicksburg, Miss., had a hot bat all afternoon for the Lady Tigers, going 3-for-3 with a pair of homers, a single and a walk while driving in a season-high four runs.
Grambling (15-8-1) scored first, plating three runs in the bottom of the first inning. A homer by Fultz extended the lead to 4-0 in the second before Jackson State (10-14) got a run back in in the top of the third to make it 4-1.
Grambling State broke the game open in the bottom of the frame, when the Lady Tigers plated four more runs. Fultz punctuated the inning with a two-run shot over the center field wall, stretching GSU's lead to 8-1.
Jackson State cut into GSU's lead in the top of fifth, adding three runs, puling within four runs 8-4, but Grambling State put its foot on the gas, stretching the advantage to 11-4 with one out in the bottom of the sixth. Cadashia Collins put the game to rest with an RBI single up the gap, securing the run-rule win for the GSU.
Kaytlyn Moore, Cadashia Collins, and Nyah Jones recorded two hits in the game. Moore and Collins both went 2-for-5 with one RBI respectively, while Jones went 2-for-3.
Dacia Richard (4-2) notched her fourth win on the season, surrendering one run on four hits with three strikeouts.
