Lady Tigers Drop Monday Doubleheader to Prairie View A&M

GRAMBLING, La . | The Grambling State softball team lost both ends of its doubleheader versus Prairie View A&M, dropping a nine-inning decision, 8-3,  in game one, before getting shut out 5-0 game two on Monday after at the GSU Softball Complex.

Game 1

Both teams went scoreless for the first two innings before PVAMU's Aerin Talley drove in the first run of the game in the top of the third. The Panthers plated another run in the top of fourth,  extending their lead 2-0.

Trailing 3-0, the Tigers finally broke through in the sixth with back to back runners finding their way home. Kaytlyn Moore scored on a RBI single from Jayda Williams, and a grounder to third base by Nyah Jones to scored another run for GSU to make it 3-2.

GSU tied the game 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh on a one-out grounder from Cadashia collins that scored Asli Stormier from third.  

Prairie View A&M put the game out of reach in the top of the night, adding five runs. 

Williams led GSU offensively, going 3-for-4 with an RBI. 

Game 2

Grambling State struggled to find offense in the second game only scratching out two hits. 

Prairie View A&M scored early, putting one run up in the top of the first after a fielder's choice brought Mia Nunez home.

PVAMU as they added another run in the top of the second giving them a 2-0 lead. Grambling State never recovered as PVAMU ran away with a 5-0 victory after a three-run fourth inning.

Starting Pitcher Peyton Shells (3-2) made it through one inning on the mound, surrendering two runs on four hits.

Jerrica Rojas (3-1) got the win for Prairie View A&M, tossing a complete game shutout, surrendering two hits with five Ks.

Grambling State travels to Stephenville, Texas to face Tarleton State in a doubleheader on Wednesday, March 29 at 12 p.m. p.m. at the Tarleton Softball Complex.
