GRAMBLING, La . | Grambling State held off a late rally by Arkansas-Pine Bluff, securing a 4-3 victory Saturday afternoon at the GSU Softball Complex.
Grambling State got things going in the bottom of the third after Jayda Williams sent one up the middle plating Anaiyah Fultz and Kaytlyn Moore giving Grambling a 2-0 lead.
India Wells and Asli Stroizer added two more runs for the Tigers in the bottom of the fifth extending the lead 4-0. Wells made her way home after Stroizer stole second and Stroizer reached on a wild pitch by Sydney Green.
A UAPB homer by Samaria Jackson in the sixth inning brought two more Golden Lions home cutting into Grambling State's lead 4-3.
Despite the late rally, Grambling State held off the golden Lions for the win.
Erin Gibbs ( 8-3) won the pitching battle for GSU, tossing five innings and striking out four Golden Lions.
Jayda Williams went 2-of-3 from the plate and recorded an RBI double.
