GRAMBLING, La .| The Grambling State softball team split Sunday's doubleheader against Arkansas-Pine Bluff at the GSU Softball Complex winning game one 13-3 and falling in the extra inning 4-3 in game two.
Game 1
GSU needed just five innings to defeat Arkansas-Pine Bluff 13-3 in game one of Sunday's doubleheader.
The Tigers got off to a hot start, scoring seven runs in the bottom of the first giving Grambling State an early 7-0 lead.
The Golden Lions could only respond with one run in the top of the second and scored two in the top of the third after a home run to make it a 7-3 game.
GSU plated six runs off of in five hits in the bottom of the third to extend their cushion 13-3.
After scoreless frames for both teams, the game was called due to the eight-run run-rule and Grambling State took the 13-3 runaway victory.
Dacia Richard (9-4) won on the mound for Grambling State pitching five innings, striking out five Golden Lions and allowing three runs.
Deija Russell went 3-for-3, logged three RBI's, and two runs. India Wells went 2-for-3 and scored two runs.
Game 2
Grambling State fell 4-3, to Arkansas Pine Bluff in game two of the doubleheader on Sunday afternoon.
Both teams went scoreless until the top of the fourth when UAPB scored three runs to grab a 3-0 lead.
Ta'mya Johnson tripled to the right and scored Nyah Jones in the bottom of the fourth bringing the score to 3-1.
In the bottom of the seventh, Johnson got hit by a pitch to open the GSU half of the inning. She gave the Tigers a runner in scoring position when she swiped second. Two batters later, Aniyah Fultz made it a 3-2 game with an RBI double to left centerfield.
With GSU down to its final out, Cadashia Collins roped a single into right field, bring Fultz around to score and send the game into extra innings tied 3-3.
The Golden Lions snagged a 4-3 lead in the top of the eight on a RBI single by Jada Carhee.
Grambling State could not respond in the bottom of the innings.
