HOUSTON, Texas | The Grambling State University softball team fell 1-0 on the road against Texas Southern University in both games of a doubleheader Friday afternoon at Memorial Park.
GSU fell to 28-20-1 overall and 13-9 in SWAC play, while Texas Southern improved to 14-22 and 11-11 in conference play.
Game 1
Grambling State was outhit by TSU 6-2 in the opening contest.
In the bottom of the first, Texas Southern scratched across its only run of the game. Madison Griggs sending one up the center set the table for Jordan McClain to reach home and take the quick 1-0 lead.
Despite having many opportunities to capitalize, GSU could not get anything going against Texas Southern and fell 1-0.
Deija Russell and Tytianna Robinson accounted for Grambling State's offense, both going 1-for-2 on the day.
Dacia Richard (9-5) worked six innings, allowing six hits and fanning two batters.
Game 2
Unlike the early scoring that was seen in game one, were locked in a scoreless tie until the bottom of the eighth inning.
GSU missed several opportunities to capitalize with runners on third base in the second, fourth, and sixth innings.
TSU clinched the 1-0 win in the extra innings with a walk-off single.
Erin Gibbs (5-3) pitched 6.1 innings, surrendering one run on six hits with five strikeouts and one walk.
Lauren Ervin went 2-for-3 at the plate. Jayda Williams and Ta'mya Johnson both went 1-for-3.
