MURRAY, Ky. | The Grambling State University women's soccer team flexed its muscle on Friday night, cruising to a season-opening 2-0 victory over Murray State at Cutchin Field.
Kayla Reed and
Samantha Diaz accounted for the scoring for GSU (1-0), both scoring a goal apiece.
The Grambling State defense was alos strong, keeping MSU (0-1) off the board.
Madison Covey-Taylor and
Aimee Benton split time in goal for the Tigers, with Covey-Taylor handling first half duties and Benton taking care of the second half, completing the combined shutout.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Grambling State opened the scoring in the eighth minute when Reed received a corner kick feed from Karlyn Judge. It was Reed's first goal of her GSU career.
- The Tigers extended the lead to 2-0 after Samantha Diaz delivered a long-distance goal on a free kick.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Grambling State registered nine shots, placing six on goal. Murray State put four of its seven shots on frame.
