Box Score 3 GRAMBLING, La. | In a series of competitive matches, Grambling State University's women's volleyball team faced tough challenges at the Southeastern Showdown, losing all three matches against opponents.
Match 1:
Grambling 0 (18, 16, 14), Southeastern 3 (25, 25, 25)
Despite a valiant effort, Grambling fell short in the first match against Southeastern.
Zyonn Smith displayed remarkable performance with 9 kills and 10 digs, while
Ra'Niya Brown contributed 2 blocks and
Ana Calderon showcased 15 assists. The Lady Tigers fought until the end but were unable to secure a victory against the Lady Lions.
Match 2:
Grambling 0 (19, 21, 16), UTEP 3 (25, 25, 25)
The second match against UTEP saw
Amber Johnson emerging as a standout player, leading in kills,
Ana Calderon with 10 assist, and
Nyah Ellis with 11 impressive digs. Despite a spirited performance, Grambling faced a setback against UTEP, with the opposing team winning in straight sets.
Match 3:
Grambling 0 (16, 14, 9), Washington 3 (25, 25, 25)
In the final match of the series, Grambling encountered tough competition from Washington.
Zyonn Smith showcased more impressive skills with 7 kills, followed by
Kai Williams who had 5 of her own, and
Nya Blair with 4. Though even with a 5 point run the Lady Tigers couldn't overcome their opponent's dominance.
Throughout all three matches, the team demonstrated resilience and scored back to back runs in most sets. However, a lack of consistent play rhythm led to several service and receiving errors, preventing them from clinching victories.
Despite the challenges faced, the Lady Tigers remain determined and focused. They are eager to regroup and prepare for their upcoming home match against the University of Louisiana at Monroe, scheduled for Tuesday, August 29, at 6pm.
