Penalty Kick Makes the Difference in GSU’s 1-0 Loss to ULM

GRAMBLING, La. | The Grambling State University women's soccer team faced off against the University of Louisiana at Monroe on Thursday night at the GSU Soccer Complex, falling 1-0. 
 
In a hard-fought matchup between Grambling State (2-4-3) and ULM (5-1-2) Grambling may have fallen short on the, but their defense showcased its prowess. 
 
The game began with an early penalty kick awarded to ULM, putting Grambling at a disadvantage from the outset. However, Grambling's defensive unit demonstrated remarkable strength and cohesion, allowing no other goals throughout the game.
 
How it happened 
  • An early foul inside the 18-yard penalty box awarded ULM a penalty kick within the first minute of the match. The Warhawks got on the board after a successful PK by Inge Konst, giving the Warhawks a 1-0 lead.
  • Both teams locked down defensively allowing less than 10 shots apiece. GSU had a late offsides goal called back and had a set-piece clang off the crossbar on its best two chances to level the match.

  • Grambling State attempted five shots, putting two shots on frame. 
  • Louisiana-Monroe took nine shots and placed five on the goal. 
  • GSU was whistled for 13 fouls while the Warhawks racked up 15.
  • ULM held a 5-3 advantage on corner kicks.
  • GSU Goalkeeper Covey-Taylor played all 90 minutes in goal for the Tigers, making three saves.
