Kretteis, Johnson Score in 2-2 Draw at Tarleton State

STEPHENVILLE, Texas | The Grambling State University women's soccer team battled to its second draw in a row, tying Tarleton State 2-2 on Friday morning.
 
Beatriz Kretteis and Morgan Johnson accounted for the Tigers' offense, both notching their first scores of the season.
 
I thought our team was playing some great soccer today. We scored two beautiful goals and with great ball movement and passing, we had some really great chances to win on the road," said GSU head coach Justin Wagar. "It was a fantastic game atmosphere with over 1,000 fans in the stands. I'm proud of the way we came out today"
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Grambling State (2-2-2) got things started early when Kretteis deposited a shot in the back on of the net, putting GSU ahead 1-0 in the fifth minute. 
  • In the 56th minute, TSU's Rylee Lowe tied the game a 1-1 with a goal.
  • Johnson pushed the Tigers back in front 2-1 in the 63rd minute with her first goal of the season.
  • Tarleton State (2-1-2) got a late score from Mila Bettinelli in the 79th minute to knot the game up at 2-2.
  • Neither team could break the deadlock down the stretch, with only GSU attempting a shot in the final 10 minutes. 
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Grambling State attempted 14 shots, putting nine on goal. Tarleton took 16 shots, placing seven on goal. 
  • TSU held a 7-1 advantage on corner kicks.
  • Tarleton committed eight fouls, GSU was whistled for three. 
  • Aimee Benton played all 90 minutes in goal for GSU, making five saves while allowing two goals.
  • TSU goalkeeper Mikayla Kendall stopped seven shots while allowing two goals.
 
UP NEXT
Grambling State returns home on Sunday for a match against Arkansas-Little Rock. First kick is scheduled for 11:30 a.m.
