BATON ROUGE, La. | The Grambling State University football team is gearing up for a tilt versus Louisiana State on Saturday, the first-ever meeting between the two historic programs. Kickoff is set for 6:32 p.m. at Tiger Stadium and will be broadcast on SEC Network+.
Fans may also tune into 99.3 The Peach to listen live on radio with play-by-play commentator Santoria Black alongside Ken Moore and Chris Johnson on the sideline.
GSU is coming off a 35-31 season-opening loss to Hampton in the inaugural Brick City Kickoff Classic.
The Tigers rolled up 399 yards of offense with 302 of those coming from the arm of
Myles Crawley. Crawley who made his debut for the Tigers completed 25-of-38 passes with two touchdowns.
On the ground, the Tigers gained 88 yards, with
Chance Williams rushing for 37 yards on seven carries with a touchdown.
GSU struggled to contain Hampton's ground attack, surrendering 279 yards to the Pirates. Defensively,
Javon Carter,
Lewis Matthews and
Kevin Thomas led the Tigers with eight tackles each.
LSU comes into Saturday's game after falling 45-24 to Florida State on Sunday. The Tigers are ranked 14th in the country.
LSU was led by quarterback Jayden Daniels who threw for 347 yards with a touchdown and an interception, while adding 90 yards on the ground. As a team, LSU ran for 113 yards.
ABOUT THE GAME
- This game marks the first meeting between Grambling State and LSU in the history of the two programs.
- Grambling State is searching for its first win over an FBS opponent since defeating Oregon State 23-6 on Sept. 28, 1985. 2019 was the last time GSU faced an in-state FBS opponent. The Tigers lost to Louisiana Tech 20-14.
- LSU will be playing its second Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) opponent in program history. LSU faced Southern during the 2022 season.
- Grambling State holds a 40-51 record versus opponents from the state of Louisiana. LSU is one of two opponents GSU plays from the city of Baton Rouge.
- Saturday's game will also mark the first time GSU plays a game in the city of Baton Rouge since 1977.
- GSU was predicted to finish fourth in the SWAC preseason West Division poll.
- LSU was chosen to finish 2nd in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Western Division preseason poll.
