Grambling State Earns Hard-Fought 2-0 Win over Mississippi Valley State

GRAMBLING, La. | The Grambling State University women's soccer team downed Mississippi Valley State University 2-0 Sunday morning at the GSU Soccer Complex. 

Junior forward Sophia Lezizidis opened up the scoring in the 9th minute for Grambling State (5-6-3 overall, 3-0 SWAC).

In the 30th minute, freshman forward Alana Aiken put one past the keeper to extend the lead to two goals.
 
The victory extended GSU's SWAC unbeaten streak to 18 games. 
 
Mississippi Valley State fell to 2-6-2 and 1-1-2 in the SWAC.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED 
The Lady Tigers got on the board in the 9th minute when Kennedy Farr and Alana Aiken linked up to get an assist for Sophia Lezizidis. Khori Banks delivered the assist to Alana Aiken in the 30th minute to cap off scoring for the Tigers.


INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Grambling State had 21 shots in total with 12 on target
  • Mississippi Valley State took seven shots with six shots on target.
  • GSU were handed two yellow cards.
  • MVSU took one corner kick. 
  • GSU Goalkeeper Madison Covey- Taylor had six saves.
  • Grambling State attempted 13 corner kicks.
  • MVSU were called for 14 fouls to GSU's 12.

 
UP NEXT 
Grambling State will head back on the road for a SWAC matchup against Southern University. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. at the Jaguar Park.
