HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In the top of the first inning, Grambling State got things started early with its first two batters, Borom and Walker, reaching base via a single and a walk. Both runners advanced to second and third following a wild pitch. Trevor Hatton scored Borom on a grounder to shortstop to make it 1-0 GSU.

  • A trio of singles in the in the top of the third gave GSU a bases loaded situation with one out. Julian Murphy and Demarckus Smiley exercise exceptional discipline at the plate to draw back-to-back bases loaded walks, putting GSU ahead 3-1.
  • JSU plated three runs in the fourth inning to inch ahead 4-3. Jackson State grew that lead to 6-3 in the bottom of the seventh.
  • Grambling State made things interesting in the top on the ninth inning. After Borom drew a one-out walk, Kyke Walker roped a single into right centerfield. Borom advanced to third base and Walker reached second on a throwing error by JSU's right fielder.
  • Hatton smashed a 2-RBI triple to left field, pulling GSU within a run, 6-5.
