HOUSTON, Texas | The Grambling State Women's Basketball beat Texas Southern in a tight 60-55 game Saturday night.
Grambling State (15-8 overall, 9-3 SWAC) took control in the second half which allowed them to comeback in this game. Outscoring TSU in both quarters after being down double digits in the first half.
In the second quarter Texas Southern shot 9-13 from the field and 3-6 from deep. Out-scoring Grambling 22-9 in the quarter and taking a 33-23 lead into the break. The hot shooting cooled off in the fourth for TSU.
Zayla Tinner led the way for her team with 16 points, followed up by an impressive double-double by
Anijah Grant. Grant pulled in 13 rebounds and scored 15 points. Taniya Lawson of TSU was the game's leading scorer with 21 points.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
GSU shot 22-61(36.1 percent) from the field, 3-9 (33.3 percent) from beyond the arc and 13-19 (68.1 percent) from the free throw line.
TSU shot 22-53 (41.5 percent) from the field, 7-29 (24.1 percent) from three-point range, and 4-7 (57.1 percent) from the stripe.
GSU scored 26 points in the paint, 18 points off turnovers and 17 bench points.
GSU controlled the backboards grabbing 14 more rebounds than TSU.
