THIBODAUX, La. | Tiger Borom drove in a pair of runs for Grambling State, but the Tigers suffered a 5-2 loss to Nicholls State at Ray E. Didier Field on Sunday afternoon.
Borom was 1-for-4 with two RBI. GSU (2-12) outhit the Colonels 9-4, but NSU (16-3) drew eight walks to keep runners on base.
Phillip Bryant (0-2) struck out three batters in five innings of work. He surrendered four runs on two hit and four walks.
Carlos Peguero and
Miguel Baez made relief appearances for the Tigers, combining to pitch three innings and allow one unearned run on two hits.
Nicholls State's Michael Quevedo (3-0) earned the win, striking out seven in 6.2 innings pitched. He gave up two runs on eight hits. Devin Desandro was credited with the save in 2.1 innings on the mound.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After scoreless opening two and a half innings, Nicholls State got on the board with a sacrifice fly by Parker Coddou in the bottom of the third. The Colonels stretched their lead to 2-0 with a run in the fourth.
- Borom got the Tigers into the score column in the fifth inning with an RBI-single laced into centerfield, making it a 2-1 game. Nicholls responded with two runs in the bottom of the frame, pushing its lead to 4-1.
- NSU tacked on one more run in the sixth to go up 5-1.
- Borom drove in his second RBI of the game on a grounder to first base that score Chris Marcellus from third.
UP NEXT
Grambling State heads to Jackson, Miss. to face Jackson State in a non-conference game on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Braddy Field.
