RUSTON, La. |The Grambling State University softball team was limited to one hit as the Lady Tigers fell to Louisiana Tech 8-0 in five innings at Dr. Billy Bundrick Field on Tuesday night.
Tavia Leadon accounted for all of the offense for the Lady Tigers going 1-for-2 with a single in the first inning. GSU fell to 10-18 on the year while La. Tech improved to 23-6.
Sherell Matthews (0-6) was charged with the loss, working one inning, and surrendering five runs on three hits with a strikeout and walk.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Louisiana Tech grabbed a quick 4-0 lead in the bottom of first inning on a grand slam by Nicole Hammoude. Ella Wright made it a 5-0 game with with an RBI single to left field.
- The Bulldogs added another run in the bottom of the second on a groundout Alexi Gilio. La. Tech tacked on more runs in the the fourth inning to put the run-rule in effect.
- GSU wasn't able to score in the fifth inning.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Louisiana Tech outhit Grambling State 7-1
- GSU left one runner on base. La. Tech stranded four baserunners.
- Janecia King entered the game in a relief role for GSU in the second inning. She surrendered three runs on four hits in three full innings.
- Alyssa Martin (2-0) picked up the win in relief for the Bulldogs. She registered two strikeouts in three innings. Mattison Buster started the game for Louisiana Tech, working two full innings, allowing one hit, and notching one strikeout.
UP NEXT
Grambling State travels to Pine Bluff, Ark. for a three-game series versus Southwestern Athletic Conference foe, Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The series is slated to begin on Friday at 3 p.m. at the Torii Hunter Softball Complex.
