Grambling State Splits Doubleheader at UAPB

PINE BLUFF, Ark.  | The Grambling State University softball team split Saturday's doubleheader at the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff, winning game one 7-1 before falling in the second game 3-0 at the Torii Hunter Softball Complex. 
 
Game One 
Jordan Hodge (3-2) earned the win on the mound for Grambling State. She pitched 3.1 innings, holding the Golden Lions to one run on four hits with one strikeout. Dacia Richard supplemented her performance, coming out of the bullpen and holding UAPB scoreless over 3.2 innings. Richards fanned six batters and allowed just two hits. 
 
Janecia King paced the Lady Tigers at offensively going 3-for-4 with an RBI. 
 
Kamryn Brossard drove in the first run of the game on a sacrifice fly in the first inning. Lexi Hope gave GSU a 2-0 lead in the top of the second on an RBI-single. 
 
After the Lady Tigers grew its advantage to 5-1, Peighton Krushall put the game out of a reach with a two-RBI double to make it 7-1 in the seventh inning.
 
Danika Bryant (2-3) was tagged with the loss after pitching 1.0 innings and giving up a run on two hits. UAPB reliever Heidi Price surrendered six runs on eight hits in 6.0 innings of of work. 
 
GSU outhit UAPB 10-6.
 
Game Two
 
Offense came at a premium in the second game of the day as Arkansas-Pine Bluff squeezed by Grambling State 3-0. 
 
Erin Gibbs (3-6) got the start for the Lady Tigers, allowing three runs, two earned, on six hits in 6.0 innings of work. 
 
UAPB's Kayla Adams was strong in the circle, striking out 10 batters over 7.0 innings. She gave up three hits.
 
The Golden Lions took advantage of a trio of errors by GSU in the fourth inning, scoring two runs to take the lead. In the sixth inning, UAPB's Samaria Jackson hit a one-out triple. Kaitlyn Neely's sacrifice fly brought her in to score to give the Golden Lions a 3-0 cushion.
 
Grambling State able to muster in hits in the seventh, clinching the win for Arkanss-Pine Bluff. 
 
 
UP NEXT 
Grambling State returns to action on Friday, April 5 when the Lady Tigers begin a three-game home series versus Prairie View A&M. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the GSU softball Complex.
