New Orleans, La. | The Grambling State University baseball team battled hard, but ultimately fell to Tulane in a midweek scrap, 9-4 at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium on Wednesday night.
GSU (2-9) scattered five hits in the contest and committed three errors on defense. Tulane (9-4) utilized home runs and timely hits to subdue the Tigers.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Grambling State got on the board first in the top of the third inning. The Tigers got the first batters on base via back-to-back walks. Following a dropped third strike that allowed runners to advance to second and third, Tiger Borom hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield to give GSU a 1-0 lead. Borom went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
- Tulane responded quickly in the bottom of the frame on a leadoff homer from Gavin Schultz to square the game 1-1. The Green Wave pushed in front 2-1 on fielder's choice later in the inning.
- The Tigers tied the score 2-2 in the top of the fourth on an RBI from DeMarckus Smiley.
- In the bottom of the inning, Peguero hit TU's leadoff batter, Reed Kellum. After advancing to second on a wild pitch, Kellum scored on an RBI single through the left side of the infield by J. Linn making it 3-2 Tulane. Jackson Linn advanced to second base on a fielding error by Borom.
- Phillip Bryant replaced Peguero with one out and two runners on base in the fourth inning. After Bryant hit the first batter he faced, a wild pitch plated the Green Wave's fourth run of the game, giving them a 2-run cushion.
- With Tulane ahead 5-2 in the bottom of the sixth, following another GSU pitching change, Teo Banks hit a 2-run home run, putting the Tigers in a five-run hole.
- Grambling State did try to rally in the eighth inning, trimming Tulane's lead to 7-4, but tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the frame.
