GRAMBLING, La. | The Grambling State University baseball team nearly rallied back to overcome an eight-run deficit, but wasn't to complete its rally, falling 11-8 to Prairie View on Saturday afternoon at Wilbert Ellis Field at R.W.E. Jones Park on Saturday afternoon.
GSU (20-24 overall, 17-7 SWAC) trailed 10-2 in the fourth inning, but mounted a furious comeback scoring the next six runs to make things interesting late.
Phillip Bryant (4-3) was charged with the loss after surrendering eight runs on six hits in 4.1 innings of work. He struck out three batters.
Brett Washington was impressive out of the bullpen, going 4.2 innings and limited PVAMU to one run on two hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the bottom of the third inning, Grambling State found itself behind 4-0. Back-to-back RBI singles from Ashton Inman and Cameron Bufford in the inning cut PVAMU's lead in half, 4-2.
- After the Panthers grabbed a commanding 10-2 advantage after four and a half innings, Grambling State cut the deficit to 10-5 with a three-run fifth.

One batter later, Trevor Hatton blasted a two-run homer over the left field wall, pulling GSU within two runs, 10-8. That would be as close as the Tigers would get to the Panthers as PVAMU tacked on one more run the eighth and held GSU scoreless the rest of the way.
