Crawley Throws for 304 yards in GSU’s Home Opening Win over Tuskegee

GRAMBLING, La. | Grambling State University starting quarterback Myles Crawley had a career day on Saturday afternoon at Eddie G. Robinson memorial Stadium, throwing for a career-high 304 yards with four touchdowns in GSU's 37-20 win over Tuskegee.
 
GSU improved to 1-1 on the year while TU fell to 0-2. 
 
The redshirt-senior from Lithonia, Ga. lit the Golden Tigers defense up, going 16-of-26 in two and a half quarter of work. 
 
Grambling State's Brenden Barley picked off Tuskegee's Christopher Roberson on the Golden Tigers' first drive of the game, setting GSU up at the TU 24-yard line. Three plays later, Crawley connected with tight end CJ Knighten for a 2-yard TD pass. It was Knighten's first collegiate TD ctahc. 
 
The extra point was missed wide left, giving Grambling State a 6-0 lead with 11:44 on the clock. 
 
GSU pushed its lead to 13-0 when Crawley connected with Nick Howard for a 9-yard score with 8:38 remaining in the first quarter. 
 
Marcellius Johnson came up with GSU's second INT of the day near the end of the first quarter, giving the Tigers great field position at the TU 35-yard line. After a 27-yard reception by Javon Robinson gave GSU a first and goal at the 4-yard line. Freshman running back Tony Phillips scored his first career touchdown with a 4-yard TD reception, extending Grambling's advantage to 20-0 with 13:27 left in the half. 
 
On Tuskegee's ensuing drive, the Golden Tigers drove to the GSU 5-yard line. The Grambling State defense stood tall, forcing a field goal attempt that TU's Lorcan Ryans would miss wide left. 
 
Reed Harradine made it a 23-0 game with a 36-yard field goal with 2:38 to go until the break. Grambling State quickly made it 30-0 when Crawley connected with Javon Robinson for a 53-yard TD pass at the 1:32 mark.
 
GSU stretched the lead to 37-0 when Bryce Cage forced a fumble on a sack with Josh Darling scooping it up and returning it 45 yards for another GSU TD. Grambling carried a 37-3 lead heading into the half as TU tacked on a field goal as time expired. 
 
Crawley finished the first half going 14-of-22 for 297 yards and four touchdowns. Robinson was equally as spectacular catching four passes for 151 yards before halftime. His 151-yard performance was also a career-best.
 
The second half was quieter for GSU. Tuskegee outscored Grambling State 17-0 in over the final two quarters of play. The Golden Tigers scored its final touchdown of the game when Raequan Beal found Rodricus Magee for a 15-yard touchdown with 35 seconds to play.
Grambling State gained 384 yards of total offense with 322 coming through the air. 
 
Defensively, Andrew Jones led the charge with 11 total tackles, six solo stops, two tackles for loss and 0.5 sacks.

  • Johnny Morris ran for 59 yards and one TD on 12 carries. Roberson carried the ball eight times for 58 yards
  • Rossie Grimes led TU with 12 total tackles.

 Grambling State travels to Commerce, Texas for a non-conference bout versus Texas A&M-Commerce. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Memorial Stadium. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+
