GRAMBLING, La. | Grambling State women's basketball head coach
Courtney Simmons has officially promoted a familiar face and proud Tiger to her 2025–26 coaching staff with the addition of
Brandi Washington as an assistant coach.
Hailing from Monroe, Louisiana, Washington is a proud graduate of Grambling State University and a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.
Her commitment to the game is matched only by her deep-rooted ties to the Grambling community, where she has continued to make an impact far beyond her playing days.
Coach Simmons spoke highly of Washington's impact, "I am thrilled to officially welcome Coach Brandi into her new role as a full-time assistant coach. Over the past two seasons as a graduate assistant, she has consistently demonstrated her dedication, knowledge of the game, loyalty, and ability to connect with our student-athletes," said Simmons, "Her transition into this position is a natural next step, and I am excited to see the continued impact she'll have on our program."
Washington served as a graduate assistant under Coach Simmons during both the 2023–24 and 2024–25 seasons, where she played a vital role in player development and day-to-day operations.
Her dedication, work ethic, and attention to detail made her an integral part of the staff's success and continued rise within the SWAC.
Washington's journey at Grambling began as a student-athlete from 2019 to 2021. Before transferring to GSU, she earned her Associate of Arts degree from Pensacola State College in 2019.
She completed her Bachelor of Science degree at Grambling State in 2021 and is currently pursuing her Master's degree in Public Administration.
Reflecting on her promotion, Washington shared, "I am truly honored and grateful to step into this new role with Grambling Women's Basketball. I want to extend my deepest thanks to Coach Simmons for continuously investing in my growth, challenging me to rise beyond limits, and, most importantly, believing in me enough to give me this opportunity," said Washington. "This is a blessing, and I'm excited for the journey ahead as we continue to build and make history here at GramFam"
