HOUSTON, Texas | Grambling State volleyball dropped a 3-0 decision to Texas Southern on Monday evening inside the Health & Physical Education Arena.
The Lady Tigers fell by scores of 25-12, 29-27, and 25-12, moving to 3-14 overall and 2-5 in SWAC play.
Kenya Lucas led Grambling with seven kills, while
Rihianna Brown added six kills and three assists.
Ra'Niya Brown contributed four kills and three blocks at the net.
Setter
Alayna Howard dished out 10 assists, and libero
Leisey Keli'i recorded a team-high nine digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1: Texas Southern came out strong, using early service pressure and balanced offense to take
control. Despite kills from
Jaida Gray and
Rihianna Brown, Grambling struggled to find rhythm
offensively and dropped the opening frame 25-12.
Set 2: Grambling responded with energy in the second set, keeping the score tight throughout. The
Lady Tigers hit .238 in the frame, with key kills from Lucas,
Ra'Niya Brown, and Morgan
Munro helping GSU battle point-for-point. The set saw multiple lead changes and extra points,
but Texas Southern held on for a 29-27 win to go up 2-0.
Set 3: In the final set, Grambling opened with an early 3-1 lead behind kills from Lucas and Brown.
However, TSU quickly regained momentum with a series of aces and kills from Gracie Hill and
Kourtni Collier to close out the match, 25-12.
