Grambling State Football Welcomes Alabama A&M to Town for Saturday Duel

GRAMBLING, La. | The Grambling State University football team looks to extend its winning streak to three games when it welcomes Alabama A&M to town for a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) battle on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Eddie G. Robinson Memorial Stadium and will be streamed on SWAC TV. 

GSU leads the all-time series with AAMU, 21-9. However, the Bulldogs have won the past three meetings. Grambling State last defeated Alabama A&M on Oct. 2, 2021, 37-28

GSU (5-3 overall, 2-2 SWAC) enters Saturday's game after upsetting 12th ranked Jackson State 26-24 in the inaugural Las Vegas HBCU Classic at Allegiant Stadium last weekend. It was the Tigers' first win over a ranked opponent since beating 20-th ranked North Carolina Central 10-9 in the 2016 Celebration Bowl to claim the HBCU National Title. 

Grambling State leads the all-time series with AAMU, 21-9. However, the Bulldogs have won the past three meetings. GSU last defeated Alabama A&M on Oct. 2, 2021, 37-28

In GSU's win over JSU, quarterback C'Zavian Teasett completed 16-of-26 passes for 232 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran for 15 yards and a TD on eight carries. 

Kicker Josh McCormick kicked a 44-yard field goal with 21 seconds remining in the game, ultimately clinching the victory for GSU. Defensive back Blake Davis led the Tigers with nine tackles.

Alabama A&M (4-4, 1-3) comes into Saturday's game after suffering a 56-13 loss to Alabama State in the Magic City Classic.  Alabama A&M finished with 136 yards, including 99 through the air.

The Bulldogs enter having dropped three out of their last four games.

AAMU ranks first in the SWAC in passing offense (255.1 ypg) and fourth in scoring offense (29.5 ppg) and total offense (378.6 ypg). The Bulldogs rank 12th in total defense (444.6 ypg) and rushing defense (218.0 ypg). AAMU is also 11th in scoring defense (36.3 ppg). 

AAMU is led by head coach Sam Shade who is in his first season leading the Bulldogs. Prior to Alabama A&M, Shade was the head coach at Miles College. His career record sits at 22-19. 

.500 FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE...
·      A victory over Alabama A&M would secure Grambling State's first .500 season since 2019. The Tigers went 6-5 that year. 
 
LINZER'S STILL AT THE TOP
·      GSU defensive back Markel Linzer leads the SWAC in interceptions with four. He's also second in FCS in INTs. 
 
ROBINSON IS A DEFENSIVE MENACE
·      Transfer defensive end Warren Robinson continues to make an impact along the GSU defensive line. 
·      Robinson ranks second in the SWAC in sacks with 6.5. 
·      The Houston, Texas native has 24 total tackles with  a team-leading 7.0 tackles for loss. 
 
CREATING TURNOVERS
·      GSU's defense has been great at forcing turnovers this season. The G-Men rank 21st in the country in takeaways with 13. Seven of those takeaways have come via interceptions
 
BRADFORD BECOMES THE FEATURED BACK
·      Grambling State running back Tre Bradford has been used heavily in the GSU running game lately.
·      Bradford ranks eighth in the SWAC in rushing  with 543 yards and three touchdowns on 89 carries (6.1 ypg).
·      He's run for over 100 yards in two of GSU's past three games. 
 
TEASETT AND MCCORMICK EARN WEEKLY AWARDS
·      Grambling State QB C'zavian Teasett was named the SWAC Co-Offensive Player of the Week while Kicker Josh McCormick earned SWAC Co-Specialist of the Week honors. 
·      Teasett threw for 232 yards and two touchdowns on 16-of-26 passing. He also ran for 31 yards and a TD on eight carries in the victory.
·      McCormick was tabbed the Co-Specialist of the week after nailing a 44-yard game winning field versus Jackson State. He also handled five kickoffs for G-Men.
 
SACK LEADERS
·      Grambling State's defense lead the SWAC in total sacks.
·      The G-Men have registered a league-high 17 sacks.
