Lady Tigers Sweep Alcorn State to Earn Second Straight SWAC Win

GRAMBLING, La. | Grambling State volleyball continued its winning momentum on Sunday afternoon, sweeping Alcorn State 3-0 inside the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center.

The Lady Tigers (3-11, 2-2 SWAC) dominated the match, winning by set scores of 25-10, 25-15, and 25-17.

Grambling hit an impressive .325 as a team, while holding the Lady Braves (1-16, 0-4 SWAC) to a -.083 attack percentage.

Kenya Lucas led all players with 13 kills, while Ra'Niya Brown and Jaida Gray chipped in seven apiece.

Brown anchored the defense with five blocks, and Lucas added four.

Setter Reece Cook tallied 16 assists and two aces, with Alayna Howard close behind at 15 assists and four aces.

Leisey Keli'i controlled the back row with 15 digs and three aces.



HOW I T HAPPENED
Set 1: Grambling wasted no time setting the tone, jumping out to an early lead behind strong serving from Leisey Keli'i and Reece Cook. Key kills from Ra'Niya Brown and Kenya Lucas pushed the advantage, and Alayna Howard delivered a string of aces late to close the frame. Jaida Gray put down the final kill for a 25-10 win.

Set 2: The Lady Tigers continued to roll in the second set, sparked by early kills from Lucas and Gray. Alcorn attempted to rally, but GSU countered with balanced offense and back-to-back blocks from Brown and Lucas. A service ace from Brown helped put the set out of reach, with Grambling cruising to a 25-15 victory.

Set 3:Alcorn showed fight in the third, but the Lady Tigers responded quickly. Keli'i's steady defense and two timely aces fueled a run that swung momentum back to Grambling. Lucas and Brown dominated at the net down the stretch, and Gray closed the match with another kill to finish off the 25-17 sweep.

Grambling State looks to extend its home-court success on Monday, Oct. 6, when the Lady Tigers host Southern University at 6 p.m.
