GRAMBLING, La. | Grambling State battled hard but fell in straight sets to rival Southern University, 3-0, on Monday night inside the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center.
The Lady Tigers dropped the match by scores of 25-16, 25-19, and 25-22, moving to 3-12 overall and 2-3 in SWAC play.
Kenya Lucas led Grambling with 10 kills and added two service aces, while
Rihianna Brown chipped in six kills and three blocks.
Setter
Alayna Howard finished with 11 assists and two aces, and libero
Leisey Keli'i anchored the defense with 14 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1 : Grambling opened the night with early energy, keeping pace with Southern behind strong swings from Lucas and Brown. Despite a late push, the Jaguars capitalized on a few key rallies to take the first set 25-16.
Set 2 : The Lady Tigers found rhythm midway through the second, highlighted by back-to-back kills from Brown and a timely ace from Howard. However, Southern responded with a late surge to close out the frame 25-19.
Set 3 : Grambling battled to extend the match, with Lucas and Brown providing consistent offense down the stretch. A spirited comeback fell just short as Southern secured the final set 25-22.
