TUCSON, Ariz. | Grambling State opened with a strong first quarter but could not withstand Arizona's second-half surge, falling 85–64 on Sunday afternoon at the McKale Center.
The Lady Tigers moved to 1–4 overall, while the Wildcats improved to 3–0.
Grambling State delivered an impressive start, shooting 60 percent in the opening period and knocking down four three-pointers to take a 22–13 lead after the first 10 minutes.
Monica Marsh was central to the early momentum, scoring nine points in the quarter, including a pair of threes.
The Tigers ball pressure and shot-making had Arizona chasing for much of the frame.
Arizona responded in the second quarter with a 25-point outburst, using defensive stops and fastbreak opportunities to reclaim control.
Grambling State struggled to find offensive rhythm during the stretch, shooting 2-of-18 from the field, allowing the Wildcats to take a 38–33 lead into halftime.
The Wildcats carried that momentum into the third quarter, shooting over 61 percent while outscoring Grambling 25–14 to extend their advantage.
Arizona's balance stood out, with four players finishing in double figures and the team scoring 54 points in the paint.
Grambling State continued to compete, highlighted by a three-pointer from
Arianna Mosley and another from
Zaria Johnson that trimmed the deficit midway through the quarter, but Arizona's efficiency proved difficult to slow.
Marsh led Grambling State with 16 points on 4-of-14 shooting, including 3-of-9 from deep, and was a perfect 5-of-5 at the free-throw line.
Douthsine Prien added nine points, while Mosley finished with seven points, four rebounds, and two assists.
The Tigers bench produced 26 points.
As a team, Grambling State shot 35 percent from the field and 40.9 percent from three.
Arizona countered with 52.5 percent shooting overall and held a 42–34 edge on the boards. The Wildcats also converted 21 points off Grambling's 17 turnovers and generated 22 fast-break points.
