Grambling State Dominates SUNO in Straight-Set Sweep

GRAMBLING, La. | Grambling State volleyball put together a commanding performance on Monday afternoon, sweeping Southern University–New Orleans 3–0 inside the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center.

The Lady Tigers improved to 5–17 overall and 3–8 in SWAC play, while the Knights dropped to 0–3 on the season.

GSU controlled the match from start to finish, taking sets by scores of 25–11, 25–9, and 25–12.

The Lady Tigers hit an impressive .309 as a team while holding SUNO to a –.129 attack percentage.

Grambling's offense was led by Kenya Lucas, who tallied seven kills, followed closely by Jazmine Binion and Rihianna Brown with six apiece.

Brown also dominated at the net with four blocks, while setter Alayna Howard dished out 21 assists and Reece Cook added 12.

Cook was also a force from the service line with four aces, while Amaris Marks contributed three. Leisey Keli'i anchored the defense with nine digs.



HOW IT HAPPENED
Set: The Lady Tigers jumped out to an early lead with strong serving and quick offensive tempo. Key kills from Kenya Lucas, Rihianna Brown, and Jazmine Binion fueled a 10–2 start, while
Amaris Marks added an ace to stretch the margin. Grambling's front line took control late, with Brown and Ra'Niya Brown teaming up for several blocks to secure a 25–11 set win.

Set 2: Grambling kept its foot on the gas, opening the second frame with a 7–1 run sparked by a Marks ace and a pair of kills from Lucas. The Lady Tigers' balanced attack continued to overwhelm
SUNO, as Howard spread the offense efficiently. Brown's ace and timely swings from Morgan Munro and Binion sealed the 25–9 victory.

Set 3: In the final set, the Lady Tigers' serving game once again set the tone. Cook opened with an ace and later added another as GSU surged ahead. Marks recorded multiple kills, while Brown
capped off a dominant all-around effort with another ace and block assist. Grambling closed the match in convincing fashion, 25–12, to complete the sweep.
