ATLANTA, Ga. | Grambling State earned an 80-68 victory over Norfolk State on Wednesday night in the Chris Paul HBCU Classic at the Gateway Center Arena at College Park, improving to 4-6 on the season.
The Tigers set the tone early, jumping out to a 38-21 halftime lead behind efficient shooting and strong interior play. GSU shot 48 percent from the field in the opening half and limited Norfolk State to just 23.7 percent shooting, building a double-digit cushion that held throughout the night.
Antonio Munoz led all scorers for Grambling State with 22 points on 10-of-14 shooting, adding five rebounds and two assists. Rickey Ballard provided a big boost from the perimeter, finishing with 19 points while knocking down four three-pointers. Jamil Muttilib added 13 points off the bench, while Roderick Coffee III and Derrius Ward chipped in 10 points apiece.
Norfolk State was paced by Elijah Jamison, who scored a game-high 26 points to go along with six rebounds. Devon Ellis and Anthony McComb III each added 12 points for the Spartans.
Grambling State finished the game shooting 48.2 percent from the field and 39.1 percent from three-point range, while also converting 17-of-22 free throws. The Tigers held a 33-44 rebounding edge and totaled 27 bench points, helping maintain control despite Norfolk State's improved second-half shooting.
