Grambling State Softball Sweeps Doubleheader Against Mississippi Valley and Tuskegee University

JACKSON, MS. | Grambling State delivered an outstanding performance on Saturday, dominating Mississippi Valley(1-11) 15-0 before rallying late to defeat Tuskegee University 4-3 in a thrilling doubleheader at the JSU Softball Complex.

In the first game, Grambling State (4-5) wasted no time setting the tone, scoring four runs in the first inning and capitalizing on defensive miscues by Mississippi Valley.

Kamryn Broussard, Cheyanne Sales, and Z'Natria Evans each reached base due to errors, leading to early runs. The offensive explosion continued in the second inning as Grambling State tacked on seven more runs.

A combination of aggressive base running and timely hitting, including a two-run double from Evans and an RBI single by Kaytlyn Moore, stretched the lead to 11-0. Additional runs in the fourth and fifth innings, with Moore and Sales delivering key RBI hits, put the game out of reach.

Pitcher Erin Gibbs dominated in the circle, throwing a complete-game shutout, allowing just five hits while striking out five batters. Moore went four-for-five with two RBIs and two stolen bases, while Evans and

Cadashia Collins each contributed key hits to the offensive surge.

In the second game, Grambling State (5-5) had to battle back late to complete the doubleheader sweep against Tuskegee University. The Tigers fell behind early as Tuskegee (3-2) plated two runs in the first inning
on a pair of RBI groundouts and added an unearned run in the second to take a 3-0 lead.

The game remained scoreless for Grambling State until the bottom of the sixth when the offense finally broke through. A clutch two-run single by Katelynn Walls cut the deficit to one, and a sacrifice fly from Aniyah Lee tied the game at 3-3.

With momentum on their side, Grambling State completed the comeback in the seventh when Sales delivered a walk-off RBI single to right field, scoring Cadashia Collins for the 4-3 victory.

Pitcher Audrey Richardson earned the complete-game win, allowing three runs, two of which were earned, on nine hits while striking out two.
