VERO BEACH, Fla. | Grambling State's offense stayed hot on Sunday afternoon, as the Tigers outlasted Prairie View A&M 13-11 on the final day of the 2025 Andre Dawson Classic at the Jackie Robinson Training Complex.
GSU (4-3) racked up 11 hits in total.
Trey Bridges led the way, going 3-for-5 with three RBI.
Martavius Thomas and
Cameron Hill also had multi-hit outings with Thomas going 2-for-4 with three runs scored and Hill going 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Hard-throwing lefty
Trenton Shaw (1-0) grabbed his first win of the season after delivering eight strikeouts in 5.0 innings. He surrendered four runs on six hits and two walks.
Javier Martinez picked up his second save in as many days, going 1.1 innings and allowing a pair of runs on a one hit and two walks.
Nick Robinson,
Derrell Fletcher and
Thomas Leiden also saw action out of the bullpen.
Grambling State hopped on top of the Panthers early, quickly grabbing a 7-0 lead after two innings. With the Tigers on top 4-0,
Aries Gardner ripped a bases clearing 3-RBI triple.
Prairie View slowly worked its way back into the game, cutting GSU's lead to 8-6 in the sixth inning.
A five run seventh gave the Tigers a 13-6 cushion. Grambling State took advantage of costly errors and clutch hitting to grow its lead.
PVAMU didn't go away quietly, however. Trailing 13-9 with no out in the ninth, an inside-the-park home run by Jayden Williams cut GSU's lead to two runs. Martinez settled down however, getting the next three outs and ending the game with a 6-4-3 double play.
