PINE BLUFF, Ar. | Grambling State put up a strong defensive effort but fell 2-0 to Arkansas-Pine Bluff in a SWAC matchup on Monday afternoon at the Torii Hunter Complex.
The Tigers (6-16, 1-4 SWAC) were held to just one hit as UAPB's Kayla Adams (4-6) dominated in the circle, striking out 12 batters in a complete-game shutout.
Grambling State's lone hit came from Katelynn Walls, who also stole a base in the first inning.
The Golden Lions (5-15, 3-3 SWAC) broke the scoreless tie in the fourth inning with a solo home run by Lyric Perry. They added an insurance run in the sixth on an RBI single by Allyncia King.
Despite the loss, Grambling State's pitching and defense kept the game within reach. Erin Gibbs (3-5) went the distance, allowing just two runs on nine hits while striking out four.
The Tigers turned key defensive plays, including a caught stealing in the sixth to prevent further damage.
Grambling State had opportunities to score but were unable to bring runners home. Kayliana Cash and Kaytlyn Moore each stole a base, but the Tigers stranded four runners on base.

Grambling State returns home for a non-conference doubleheader against Rust College on Wednesday, March 19, at the GSU Softball Complex. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
