GRAMBLING, La. | Grambling State dominated Rust College in a doubleheader sweep at the GSU Softball Complex on Wednesday, securing a 16-1 victory in game one and a 16-8 win in game two.
In the opener, Grambling State (8-16) exploded for 10 runs in the first inning, setting the tone early.
The Tigers tallied 12 hits, with
Katelynn Walls leading the charge, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a triple.
Kamryn Broussard also made a significant impact, recording a triple and three RBIs.
Cadashia Collins added two hits and two RBIs.
On the mound,
Chloe Wilson (1-1) was in control, tossing a complete game, allowing just one run on six hits while striking out four.
The second game saw Rust College (5-22) put up more resistance, but Grambling State's offense remained relentless.
The Tigers pounded out 15 hits, with
Ahsunte' Specks driving in three runs on two hits, while
Kamryn Broussard added a triple and an RBI.
Katelynn Walls continued her strong day with another multi-hit performance, scoring three runs and stealing two bases. Grambling State took the lead for good with a four-run fifth inning, capped by an RBI triple from Broussard.
Chloe Wilson (2-1) picked up her second win of the day, tossing the final two innings while striking out four.
UP NEXT
Grambling State returns to conference play with a home series against Alcorn State at the GSU Softball Complex. The Tigers open the series on Friday, March 21, at 1 p.m., followed by a matchup on Saturday, March 22, at 12 p.m.
