ARKADELPHIA, Ark. | Grambling State dropped both games of a non-conference doubleheader at Henderson State on Tuesday afternoon at Dee White Field. The Lady Tigers fell 2-1 in game one and 3-2 in game two.
With the losses, Grambling State moves to 14-21 overall and remains 7-7 in SWAC play heading into the final stretch of the regular season.
In game one Grambling State outhit Henderson State 6-5, but two early runs by the Reddies proved too much to overcome.
Audrey Richardson (5-5) turned in a solid outing in the circle, going the full 6.0 innings while allowing just five hits and two earned runs. She walked four and struck out one in the loss.
Offensively, the Tigers got a spark from
Kamryn Broussard, who went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate.
Tavia Leadon added a double and scored Grambling's only run in the fourth inning after advancing on a fielder's choice and a defensive error.
Cadashia Collins also doubled in the first, but the Tigers left seven runners stranded, including a late opportunity in the seventh.
In the nightcap, Grambling State mounted a fifth-inning comeback but ultimately came up short in a tight 3-2 loss.
Henderson State (25-20) did all its damage in the bottom of the third, beginning with a solo home run from Jay Albiter and tacking on two more runs through aggressive base running and timely hitting.
The Tigers responded in the fifth when
Z'Natria Evans and
Jada Carhee reached base and pulled off a double steal.
Christalyn Higgins delivered an RBI single, and
Hailey Hughes followed with a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to one.
Grambling had opportunities in the sixth and seventh, including hits from
Katelynn Walls and Carhee, but couldn't bring the tying run home.
Erin Gibbs (5-7) went the distance, allowing three earned runs on seven hits in six innings with two walks and no strikeouts.
The Lady Tigers tallied five hits in the game, with contributions from Specks (double), Higgins, Evans, Carhee, and Walls. They also swiped three bases — one each by Evans, Carhee, and Higgins.
