Late Rally Falls Short as Grambling State Swept by Prairie View A&M

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas | Grambling State dropped both games of Saturday's doubleheader against Prairie View A&M, falling 5-4 in a tight extra-inning opener before losing 5-2 in the nightcap at the Lady Panther Softball Stadium. The Lady Tigers battled defensively but couldn't overcome late rallies by the Panthers.

With the losses, Grambling State falls to 15-25 overall and 8-11 in SWAC play, while Prairie View improves to 25-19 (19-3 SWAC).

Grambling State struck first with a run in the opening inning, but Prairie View answered with two early runs. The Tigers clawed back, taking a 4-3 lead in the fifth after Ahsunte' Specks (2-for-4, 2B, RBI) and Kamryn Broussard (2-for-3, 2B, RBI) delivered key hits. Tavia Leadon and Cadashia Collins added RBIs to fuel the rally.

The Panthers tied it in the seventh on a sacrifice fly, then walked it off in the eighth when Aerin Talley launched a solo homer, off Audrey Richardson (6-7).

Richardson pitched 6.2 innings, but PVAMU's Callin Massey (9-5) shut down GSU in relief, allowing zero runs over 2.2 frames.

In game two, the Panthers dominated early, scoring three runs in the first inning and adding another in the second.

Dyani McKinley (3-for-3, RBI, 3 SB) and Michelle Meeks (2 RBI) powered Prairie Views's offense, while Brielle Moreno (9-5) tossed a complete game, limiting GSU to six hits.

Grambling's Christalyn Higgins (2-for-3, 2B, RBI) and Lexi Hope (sacrifice RBI) provided late sparks, but the Tigers couldn't overcome the early deficit. Chloe Wilson (3-3) took the loss despite a six-inning effort.
