PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas | Grambling State could not hold on late in a high-scoring battle, falling 10-8 to Prairie View A&M on Sunday afternoon at the Lady Panthers Softball Stadium.
The Lady Tigers (15-27 overall, 8-13 SWAC) jumped out to an early lead, scoring three runs in the first inning and tying the game again in the sixth, but a late home run by Prairie View proved to be the difference. Prairie View improved to 27-19 overall and 21-3 in conference play.
Grambling State collected eight hits and showed fight throughout, highlighted by
Kamryn Broussard's two-hit, three-RBI performance and a big three-run homer by
Tavia Leadon in the sixth inning to tie the game at 8-8.
Ahsunte' Specks scored twice and recorded a hit, while
Deija Russell reached base three times with a hit and two walks.
Zoe Roland,
Audrey Richardson, and
Chloe Wilson combined in the circle, with Wilson (3-4) taking the loss after Prairie View's Samantha Guillory launched a two-run homer in the sixth to give the Panthers the final edge.
After falling behind 5-4 through three innings, Grambling State tied the game in the top of the sixth with a sacrifice fly by Broussard followed by Leadon's blast over the fence.
However, the Lady Tigers couldn't rally again after the Panthers answered with two runs of its own in the bottom half.

Grambling State heads to Gulfport, Mississippi, to compete in the 2025 SWAC Softball Tournament at the Gulfport Sportsplex. Tournament play is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, May 6.
