Grambling State Sweeps Southern in Baton Rouge Doubleheader

BATON ROUGE, La. | Grambling State delivered a complete team effort in Baton Rouge on Tuesday, sweeping a critical SWAC doubleheader against Southern University with back-to-back road wins.

2-0 in game one and 3-2 in game two at Lady Jaguar Field.

The Lady Tigers improve to 17-27 overall and 10-13 in SWAC play, staying firmly in the postseason conversation as the regular season winds down.

Grambling State jumped out early and never looked back, scoring both of its runs in the top of the first inning. Cadashia Collins came through with a two-RBI single to bring home Katelynn Walls and Kamryn Broussard, giving Grambling a 2-0 lead that would hold for the rest of the game.

Audrey Richardson (7-8) was dominant in the circle, tossing a complete-game shutout. She allowed seven hits and three walks but stranded six Southern runners, using strong infield defense to protect the lead.

Collins finished 2-for-3 with two RBI's. Broussard, Walls, Tavia Leadon, and Christalyn Higgins all chipped in with hits as Grambling played error-free defense behind Richardson.

In the second game, the Tigers once again controlled the game from start to finish. Grambling broke a scoreless tie in the fifth inning when Tavia Leadon doubled home Katelynn Walls, and Kendyll Turpeau later stole home to make it 2-0.

The Tigers added an insurance run in the seventh when Christalyn Higgins singled home Broussard, who had reached on a single and advanced to third. Higgins finished 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Broussard added her second multi-hit game of the day.

Southern made things interesting in the bottom of the seventh, scoring twice, including one run on a sacrifice fly and another on a steal of home.

Chloe Wilson (4-4) held strong in the circle, going the distance with seven solid innings of two-run, six-hit ball and two walks behind her.
