7/23/2025 11:27:00 AM

GRAMBLING, La. | Grambling State University women's basketball Head Coach Courtney Simmons has announced the addition of Devin Cooper as an assistant coach ahead of the 2025–26 season.

A seasoned leader with nearly a decade of experience at the junior college level, Cooper brings a winning pedigree and a strong foundation in player development and recruiting.

Cooper joins the Lady Tigers after last serving as an assistant coach at the University of Louisiana-Monroe during the 2024-25 season.

Before that, he spent eight seasons at Jones College in Ellisville, Mississippi. Cooper worked alongside former ULM head coach Missy Bilderback for seven of those years as an assistant coach.

During his time with the Bobcats, the program compiled a 198–33 overall record (.857), captured seven straight 20-win seasons, and made seven consecutive trips to the NJCAA Division I Tournament.

That stretch included three Sweet 16 appearances, two Elite Eights, and a historic Final Four run in 2022.

In addition to his success on the court, Cooper played a vital role in all facets of the Jones College program. Ranging from recruiting to working closely with the post players.

Cooper joined the ULM staff during the 2023-24 season as the director of basketball operations.

"We are so blessed to have Coach Coop join our staff. His deep loyalty to the game of basketball and passion for developing players has me truly excited for what's ahead." said Coach Simmons. "I can not wait to see the impact he'll have on our program and these young women."

A native of Mount Olive, Mississippi, Cooper began his journey with the Bobcats under Jones College Hall of Famer Sandra Sumrall before transitioning to Bilderback's staff.

He holds an associate degree from Jones College and earned his bachelor's degree in general studies from Southern Miss in 2018.

"I want to thank Coach Simmons, our Athletic Director Dr. Scott and the entire administration for allowing me the opportunity to be a part of the Grambling family." said Cooper. "I'm thrilled to embrace this new opportunity and grateful for the trust placed in me. I'm ready to contribute, learn, and grow at this great institution."
